Intro to Marvelous Designer : This introductory course for Marvelous Designer will go into detail about most of the tools and different techniques used to create clothing for game development. This course will start with going over the basic user interface, creating some simple fabric objects, and then transitioning into full clothing for male and female avatars. The course will also demonstrate how to export and clean the models inside of Zbrush and Maya. Finally, you’ll get a quick overview for creating different clothing folds from adding animation inside of Marvelous Designer.

MATERIALS: Marvelous Designer Maya (or equivalent)

SKILLS LEVEL: Intermediate

PREREQUISITES: Knowledge of Maya and ZBrush strongly recommended

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

The more you know, the better.

Week 1 | Intro to Marvelous Designer UI

Introduction, UI, import, export, basic mesh | Creating basic fabric meshes (table cloth, cushion, and pillow)

Week 2 | Tools and Functions of Marvelous Designer

Diving deeper into Marvelous tools and functions | Creating pouches, scarves, and balaclava

Week 3 | Bounding Volumes and Arrangement Points

Create a blouse and a dress/skirt with a corset | Explain and create the bounding volumes around a character

Week 4 | Create Clothing

Creating pants with straps, knee pads, etc. | Creating shirt with pocket and straps

Week 5 | Complete the Final Project

Importing into Zbrush (turning to quads and keeping subdivisions) | Importing into MD with animation blend maps (fold variations)
